At the core of Ed Hardy, is the legendary tattoo artist, Don Ed Hardy, who at the age of 10 recognized the art of tattooing. Hardy grew up in the pop culture of California in the 1950s and early 1960s, and went on to earn an art school degree from the San Francisco Art Institute. He then learned to tattoo by learning to master artists such as Phil Sparrow. Over the past 40 years, Hardy has transformed the ancient tradition while injecting fresh energy into painting, printmaking and ceramics. From graphic t-shirts to denim jackets, Ed Hardy's designs exude a traditional and artistic quality that is reflected in contemporary style.
